Happy Birthday Nebraska!
As I am sure you know by now, March 1st Nebraska is celebrating its sesquicentennial birthday. That is 150 years for those of you reaching for your dictionary. The Nebraska Rural Electric Association is very proud of our state’s unique history and we wanted to join in the celebration by contributing our latest Working for Nebraska video.
Nebraska’s status as the only all-public power state is something to be proud of, and although we may not think about it all that often, it is a title that we should not take for granted and fight to keep.
Your electric utility is not-for-profit and that would be enough to get most people to support public power, but there is much more public power offers to Nebraska’s electric customers.
Transparency, access to public records and board meeting are just a few benefits that set us apart. Local control is also a foundation of our public power system. You have a board member representing you on your electric utility. Or, If you want to be involved, you can even run to serve on the board yourself.
There are many qualities that make Nebraska so much more than a fly-over state. As we celebrate Nebraska’s 150th birthday, it is a great time to reflect on these qualities and applaud what a great home we all have. The Nebraska Rural Electric Association hopes that you will join us in truly wishing Nebraska a Happy Birthday.
